Regia Silk Socks

I posted about finishing DH's socks a while back but I never posted the details. Here are some pictures. I bought two skeins of Regia Silk when I went on a yarn crawl last summer. I intended to make the socks for DH's autumn birthday. I finished them a little late but he got them, he likes them and he wears them. In fact, it took me longer than I thought to get these photos because I had to hold them when they came out of the laundry. He wears them as soon as they make their way back into his sock drawer.

You might be able to see that the two skeins that I originally purchased weren't enough to finish this project. If you look closely you can see that the toes are a little darker than the rest of the sock. That is were I added the third skein which didn't match the dye lot of the first two. This is another reason that I will always knit both socks at once on two circular needles! I loved knitting with this yarn and would definitely use it again. I also want to try Knitpicks Gloss sock yarn which has a similar fiber content (wool and silk).

When I was planning these socks I knew I wanted to use gansey type stitches. Many traditional ganseies had the wearers initials knit in just above the bottom welt. I knit in DH's initials just below the top ribbing. The photo is not so great but you can sort of see his initials here. You can click on the picture to see it bigger. The initials lay across the front of the leg.

This photo is my attempt to show the detail of the leg pattern. Click away to see the picture enlarged. I tried to be symbolic with my choices. DH enjoys hunting and fishing so I included a tree pattern and some small ropes. I posted the chart when I started these socks.
